Meta's WhatsApp fees explained

What Meta charges from 1 October, why you need a payment method on file, and how Click-to-WhatsApp ads keep chats free.

Meta owns WhatsApp, and from 1 October it charges businesses for replies sent inside a customer chat. This page explains exactly what that means for your shop, who pays, and the two ways to keep the bill small.

Who pays Meta

When you connected WhatsApp to Buvvo you signed in with your own Meta business account. That means Meta bills your business directly for messaging. Buvvo does not collect it, mark it up, or add a per-message charge of its own. Your Buvvo plan is a flat subscription plus a small percentage of each confirmed sale, nothing per message.

What Meta charges

  • 1,000 free replies a month per WhatsApp number. Every reply sent from your number counts, whether the bot sent it or you typed it.
  • After that, about ₦14 per reply (Meta quotes it in US dollars, about $0.0101, so the naira figure moves with the exchange rate).
  • Template messages (the pre-approved ones used for order updates and broadcasts) are priced separately by Meta and are not part of this allowance.

For context: Growth’s 1,000 bot replies fit inside the free allowance, so a Growth shop that only uses the bot pays Meta nothing. Scale’s 3,000 would cost about ₦28,000 a month if you used all of them.

Two ways to keep the bill small

  1. Set a reply budget. In My bot, Reply budget, cap how many replies the bot may send a month. Once it is reached the bot stops and flags chats for you, so nothing is sent that you did not plan for.
  2. Point your ads at your Buvvo number. Chats that start from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad are free for 72 hours. Point your ads at your Buvvo number. Those chats are marked From ad in your inbox, with the time the free window ends.

Where to see your usage

Your Plan page has a WhatsApp fees (Meta) card with replies sent this month, how many were inside an ad’s free window, and the estimated Meta cost. Your dashboard home shows the same count at a glance.
